He
was born in Kavala, from a bourgeois family that gives
him the possibility of a particular culture for that
certain timeline. A camera that was given to him at the
age of 16 gets him in contact with photography for the
first time. Even if he studies chemistry in Lausanne
and with his return he works in the factory of his father,
he begins more and more to deal with photography up to
the point that it gains him absolutely. He photographs
from 1940 on behalf of the army as reservist officer
the Albanian forehead and from the possession and afterwards
as collaborator for various foreigner missions and organisms
ensuring with comfort the materials and the instruments
that he needs, in very difficult times for Greece. He
collaborates with Associated Press, Life magazine and
CBS network. In 1956 he begins his photographic agency.
He photographs everything for everyone. He works usually
with medium format and, no matter the pressure, he finds
always time to take photos for himself.
By his attendances in exhibitions more important is considered
his attendance - unique Greek - in the exhibition "The
family of man" M. O. M. A. He plays a leading part
in the foundation of E. F. E. and participates in its
activities, a person that the photograph was his life.
His archive of 120.000 negatives it is an important recording
of Greece reconstruction afterwards the war. A Greece
optimistic and creative and smiling most of the times
, but however that it is only her one side. I had the
chance to print photographs from his archive via his
last collaborator Mr. Stergios Svarnas, his negatives
were flawless. His archive belongs now in the Benaki museum.
