He
was born in Geneva. Son of a photographer, he inherited
the laboratory of his father with his brother Edmond-victor.
Terrific climber and lover of nature he comes first time
in Greece and photographs in 1903, he comes again in
1907, and in 1913 he is the first that goes up in the
top of Olympus. He comes again for a last travel in Mount
Athos/Agio Oros in 1930 (72 years old!). His Photographic
glance elects the Greek nature and the people. A unique
ethnological documentary since most photographers of
his time, photographed only the ancient marbles of Greece.
Even if from his love for ancient Greece he began this
photographic travel, he loves also the modern Greeks,
specifically those of the countryside. I include him
in the great Greek photographers for the value of his
work and for his love for Greece, but also because I
believe that his work made Greece known at that season
and he also influenced a lot of Greek photographers.
The total of Greek department of his archive was acquired
recently by the greek cultural Olympiad.
